Teenager Charged With Roundhill Way Murder

Flowers have been left beside the Roundhill Way road sign.

An 18-year-old male has been charged by detectives in Guildford this evening (September 24) with the murder of a teenager in Guildford on Saturday night.

Liam Martin, of Roundhill Way, Westborough, Guildford has been remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (September 25).

Officers were called to an address in Roundhill Way at around 7.45pm on Saturday following reports that a 19-year-old man had been stabbed. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The dead man has today been formally identified as Jake Bates from Guildford.  A post mortem examination carried out today confirmed that the cause of death was a stab wound to the neck.

Earlier today flowers were left near to scene of the incident. One message attached to a bunch of flowers read: “RIP mate.”

This afternoon the area was quiet. Local residents reported that the police cordon was lifted on Sunday night but investigating officers were observed continuing their examination of the scene.

Update: Liam Martin appeared in court before Magistrates this morning (September 25). He spoke only to confirm his name, age and address. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday 27th September.
