Confusion reigns over Guildford’s car parking charges. Well done Paul Jarvis for starting your petition. More than 100 have already signed.

His petition is to remove the three-hour minimum charge in many Guildford car parks and reassess car parking charges. Hardly unreasonable when you look at the council’s car park fees and charging times.

This is an inconsistent and confusing list. Six multi-storey car parks at £3 minimum charge. Another multi-storey at £1.50 an hour and another at £1 an hour. Others at £1.30 an hour.

Even car parks immediately next to each other charge different rates, Bedford Road multi-storey at £3 minimum and its off-street parking at £1.50 an hour.

In the petition, 300 signatures require a response from the GBC leader and 500 take the issue to full council. So, Guildford residents, please sign here to stop parking fees confusion.

I fail to understand why I have to register with GBC in order to sign a petition.

The registration requirement is to ensure that each petitioner is a genuine Guildford resident and that each only signs the petition once – you can imagine the potential for fraud if there were no such checks.
