The High Sheriff of Surrey, Jim Glover, is, this month, coming to the end of his year in office.
On Friday afternoon, April 26, he will be giving a talk at the Guildford Institute reflecting on the year’s activities and speaking about the High Sheriff’s role that goes back to before the Norman conquest.
His focus areas have included the permanent exclusion of pupils from schools, as well as student volunteering activities throughout the county.
The traditional part of his role also continues to support those carrying out law and order in Surrey; including judges, magistrates police, prison, probation and emergency services.
Mr Glover has been a Surrey resident for 20 years and lives in Westcott with his wife Cath.
Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Mr Glover has a substantial background of executive and non-executive director roles in large leisure, retail and service organisations both in the UK and overseas.
He also served as a member of council at the University of Birmingham for 10 years during which time he held the positions of treasurer and then chair of council and pro-chancellor.
He is currently chair of council at the University of Surrey.
He has been closely involved with several charities in the past, including MENCAP, Grafham Grange SET and RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises. He is currently a trustee of the High Sheriff Youth Awards.
His talk at Guildford Institute in Ward Street will be at 3pm. Admission is £5 for Institute members, £6 non-members.
