Retailers and shoppers in a Surrey town are being urged to help police identify a suspected burglar who is wanted by Essex Police.

The crime was committed at the Saracen’s Head hotel on Chelmsford High Street shortly before 4-30am on Wednesday, July 11. A guest had been staying at the premises for several days. He was captured on hotel CCTV stealing a three-figure sum of cash from reception, before then leaving the premises.

Investigating Officer, PC Marcus Baker, said: “This man gave hotel staff false details so we’re at a loss at the moment as to who he is. We have obtained this very good CCTV image of him and hope that someone can provide us with a name. We know that he travelled through Surrey, visiting Guildford, before moving on to Kent, Sussex, Suffolk, Essex, Wiltshire and London in July.”
