A 29-year-old man has been arrested and interviewed in connection with an allegation of a serious sexual assault in Guildford last week  have announced.

Surrey Police said the man, from Godalming, is on bail until 11 July 2012, whilst detectives continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the reported incident involving a 24-year-old woman on Thursday evening (24 May).

Chief Inspector Matt Goodrich

Neighbourhood Commander Chief Inspector Matt Goodridge said: “We are confident that there is no-one outstanding that we need to interview as a result of our enquiries to date. The community should be re-assured that Guildford remains a safe place to live, work and visit.

“Personal safety is always important and I would encourage women and girls to remain vigilant to this. There are many special events planned in the coming weeks and the town will be busy; the best advice, as always, is to plan ahead for a night out. In this way it is possible to enjoy yourselves secure in the knowledge you are going to get home safely at the end of the evening.”

On 28 May Surrey Police said the man had been released on bail until July pending further investigations.
