Here are a selection of latest volunteer roles being promoted by Voluntary Action South West Surrey.

Home-Start Guildford is looking for a speaker to deliver a session on tech safety for families

Home-Start Guildford is looking to invite a knowledgeable and engaging guest speaker or trainer to deliver a session on tech safety for families.

The session would ideally cover topics such as keeping children safe online, understanding and using parental controls, recognising warning signs of grooming or exploitation, and building confidence in navigating digital spaces.

Godalming and District Scouts is looking for new volunteers

Scouts provides fun and adventure for young people from four years up to 18 years of age split into groups…

Squirrels, four to six years; Beavers, six to eight years; Cubs, eight to 10 and a half years; Scouts, 10 and a half to 14 years; and Explorers, 14 to 18 years.

The aim is to help children to learn skills for life and find a place to belong, by running weekly sessions with activities that encourage them to learn and try out new things while having fun.

Volunteering roles range from becoming a weekly volunteer running the section meetings to supporting the sections and the group they are part of with administration tasks, building and grounds maintenance, or becoming a trustee (all groups are charities).

The group has an established training programme and practical support for all new volunteers.

Help out at Guildford Lions Club’s Raft Race

Guildford Lions logoGuildford Lions Club is running its ever-popular annual Raft Race on the River Wey on Saturday, July 4.

The race is always a great spectacle as well as being tremendous fun for the competitors.

This year the Lions are keen to emphasise that both the event and the River Wey is accessible to everyone regardless of physical disabilities or other life-challenges that aren’t always visible.

The Lions will be working with the Guildford-based Samson Centre for MS (Multiple Sclerosis) which provides support and care for people suffering from MS.

Plus, also be working with Roar Outdoors, based at Dapdune Wharf, Guildford, whose mission is to support young people struggling to thrive in conventional educational settings, whether due to exclusion, special educational needs, or challenges with engagement.

Volunteers are needed to be walking marshals following the raft race route from Millmead to the Waterside Centre (about 2.5km) with throw lines to assist anyone in difficulties and collect donations either by card reader or traditional bucket shake.

Strong-bodied volunteers are needed to assist disabled competitors handling their rafts, kayaks or paddle boards at both Millmead Island or at the finish.

Fundraising support volunteer

The Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity is seeking a fundraising volunteer to support its fundraising team, which annually raises more than £5 million per year, to assist families with a child facing a life-threatening or terminal illness.

The role involves researching potential funders, supporting funding applications and reports, maintaining records, and assisting with donor communications.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in trusts and foundations, fundraising or bid writing, plus strong research and writing skills.

Commitment is one day per week, working in Leatherhead. Hybrid or remote working may be possible. Full training and ongoing support provided.

Digital marketing and administrator role

Surrey Lifelong Learning Partnership’s Guildford Youth Hub at 109 Southway, Westborough, has a voluntary role supporting its youth employment advisors.

The role is ideal for someone who enjoys communicating, can help develop content and engage with younger people through social media and other communication methods.

One morning or afternoon a week is desired, ideally on a Monday or Wednesday, but can be flexible.

Using social media platforms, including Instagram, Tiktok, whatsapp, and so on, the role is to create promotional material, capturing and editing visuals.

Plus helping with general administration, sending appointment reminders, phoning young people to see how they’re getting on, promotion and marketing.
