Surrey Disabled People’s Partnership (SDPP) will be celebrating United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Thursday (December 3).
And people are invited to go along to one of the Surrey Hubs to find out more about what SDPP does and have their say.
Go along to a Surrey Hub, enter a booth and write down a barrier you face and be photographed holding your sign. Clive Wood, SDPP’s CEO says: “It’s because inclusion matters.” Pictured is Andy with his message.
The Surrey Hubs are local centres that provide information and support to help people stay independent. They can be found in several Surrey towns.
The Guildford hub is at the monthly farmers’ market. Others are at Godalming, Woking, Adlestone, Walton-on-Thames, Camberley, Dorking, Redhill, Epsom, and Staines.
The theme for this year’s day is: Inclusion matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities.
With an estimated one billion people living with disabilities worldwide, many face barriers to inclusion in key aspects of society. As a result, many people with disabilities do not enjoy access to society on an equal basis with others, which includes areas of transportation, employment, and education, as well as social and political participation.
A spokesman said: “SDPP is delighted to be supporting this international day, as it is our mission to enable and empower disabled people to have the same choices and quality of life as every other citizen of Surrey.
“We strive to increase disabled people’s involvement in all aspects of the community and therefore gear all our services towards this aim.
SDPP services also include Advocacy in Surrey and GetWise.
