At the presentation held on Tuesday, February 16, local branch chairman Shirley West said: “This is a very special thank you to hotel manager Louisa Green and all her staff. We have been so lucky over the past five years for your support helping to raise funds and for allowing us to use your hotel for our events and for all the tea and coffee!

“I thank Hayley Bollons who has done so much for us along with members of the health club, particularly in the money they have raised over the past year.”

Shirley presented Haley with the certificate.

Heart specialist consultant Dr Chua was also present and he said: “Thank you to all at the Holiday Inn. What you have done is not a one-off, you have been helping [the BHF] for several years. The BHF is phenomenal in its work. All the support we get is very much needed.”

The Mayor of Guildford, Nikki Nelson-Smith said of the local BHF branch: “You bring in the money wherever you go, and thanks also to the Holiday Inn and Spirit.”

Clare Cassidy, BHF’s head of community fundraising team for the South East, travelled down from Worcestershire to attend the event and to meet members of the Guildford and Godalming branch.

She said: “Your reputation goes far and wide! In total throughout the UK £80 million was raised last year for heart research. We are biggest fundraiser.”

Shirley West also said that the work of the BHF means that the work of heart replacements is “pushing ahead”. She added that means people are able to live longer and can have better lives.

The fundraising partnership will continue. Hayley Bollons will be raising more funds soon for the BHF when she takes part in a ‘wing walk’ on an aircraft.
