The Wey Valley Indoor Bowls Club’s under 25s team won the national double triples in Nottingham on September 26, after two hard fought games against clubs Exonia and St Neots.

The winning under 25 team.

The club’s previous win in this competition was nearly 20 years ago, and the club says: “It is a fantastic achievement for our latest generation of young talent.”

The competition started last season with the finals due to be played in April 2020, but was put on hold due to the pandemic.

The club adds that all that time away from the green hasn’t hampered the strength and determination of its younger players, adding: “If anything, it has made them even more hungry to lift the trophy!

“This enthusiasm and passion for the game can be seen by the sheer number people we have welcomed back through the doors to renew their membership for the coming season as well as lots of interest from people brand new to the sport wanting to try something new.

“After so long in lockdown, our members are keen to return to the green where they can experience the wonderful blend of exercise, friendship and competition.

“Indoor bowls can played by people of all ages and abilities. We have internal leagues to join, matches against other clubs, free coaching on hand and support for those new to the support, as well as an on-site café where people can meet people and make new friends who also just started the sport.”

The club is hosting an open day tomorrow (Saturday, October 2). Doors will be open for everyone of all ages to try bowls and to discover the club nestled at the top of Lido Road in Stoke Park, Guildford.
