Residents of all ages flocked the official opening of a new playground in Jacobs Well on Saturday, July 30.
The ribbon was cut by five-year-old Chloe, whose dad Tom Jones, made the suggestion that the play area was in need of an upgrade.
Worplesdon Parish Council had asked local residents what improvements they would like in the area and then applied for a grant to rebuild the playground.
It was successful and the SITA Trust has funded it to the tune of £30,000.
At the opening, the chairman of Worplesdon Parish Council, Dr Paul Cragg, thanked SITA Trust for its grant and particularly Marianne Ivin for her help.
He also thanked playground equipment maker HAGS-SMP and Surrey Community Action, which helped parish clerk Gaynor White prepare the bid and thanked her for putting the whole scheme together.
Playsafe Playgrounds and Sarah Alexander were thanked for their assistance in designing and consulting for the new play equipment, as well as the local community for their support and enthusiasm.
The new equipment provides the following features – rocking, climbing, sliding, swinging and rotating. The equipment is all-inclusive enabling able bodied and disabled children to play together.
The original play area was constructed by the parish council in 1983.
