A memorial service commemorating the life of well-known Guildford character and photographer Dave Salmon, who died in July aged 78, takes place at St Saviour’s Church, Woodbridge Road, this Friday, October 16, at 11am.

A presentation by retired railwayman Geoff Burch and local historian and writer David Rose will be given on Dave Salmon’s life and will include many examples of his photography.

There will also be a display of nearly 100 of his pictures including railways, buses, aircraft, Guildford in the 1960s and 70s, and Guildford City Football Club.

Everyone is welcome to attend and there will be refreshments afterwards.

David Rose said: “Geoff Burch has assembled a splendid illustrated tribute that will be shown on a big screen in the church during the service. Geoff and I will be adding details about Dave’s life and his photography.

“He has left an amazing archive of thousands of photographs. Justin White of Guildford’s Repropoint, and who knew Dave, has kindly printed nearly 100 of Dave’s images and these will be on display after the service where people can view them while they enjoy the refreshments.”

Thank you David Rose and Geoff Burch for giving such an informative and interesting memorial service for the late Dave Salmon.

His photographs of old Guildford are incredible, and as you say, his legacy will live on.

A belated thank you to all involved for a brilliant service. You did him proud.
Guildford will not be quite the same without Dave around.
