The first Antique and Brocante Fair was held today (Sunday, September 8) in Guildford High Street with “overwhelming support from the public” said organiser, Jackie Edwards.

The Guildford Dragon NEWS was there to take photos.

With more than 50 stalls, it attracted the crowds to the High Street. Click on the images to enlarge them.

On the tool stall, there were plenty of old tools which you don’t see used much now and some of them needed explaining to the younger visitors.

Traders gave it the ‘thumbs up’ and said that business was good.

And that they would be back when the fair was held again.

The good weather helped as stallholders discussed their wares with the public.

A sunny day always helps.

Decision time. Will I buy it or not?

The fair was perfect to have a good rummage on the various stalls……

It could have been a hat or an antique cashmere…

or a stuffed animal.....

or a stuffed animal…..

or a doll’s house….

There was lots to point out and talk about. “It’s brilliant” said one shopper, “I hope that it becomes a regular market.”

Gleaming, shiny post boxes…..

to obscure scientific instruments, coal scuttles and milk churns….

a carpet beater….

and warrior helmet props.

Jewellery attracted a lot of interest.

Organiser, Jackie Edwards of ACVR Events, said that the public response had been overwhelming. She said that it had taken months to set up and that “it had been made infinitely easier by the enthusiasm of Diane Parker of Guildford Borough Council.

This boar’s head was an object of its time but less acceptable now.

This shopping lark is hard work…….

Time for a sit down…..

or have a poem written for you by Eva Perrin Fontana (Velvet Fairy Art)

and then to head off home with a bargain.
