The contractors working on the Ash road bridge project have announced that “additional work” on the recently-closed Ash Church Road has to be done before it can be reopened.

Last week, it appeared a new surface was in place, paving the way for the road to be reopened. But today (Monday) – following an inspection of the road – major work was in progress again and the surface was being relaid.

But this is how it looked today (Monday), following an inspection

The contractors said they hoped the work would be completed this week so that Ash Church Road and the junction with Foreman Road can be reopened before the Easter weekend.

That part of Ash was closed to traffic in early February, with diversions in place, so that the road surfacing work could take place as part of Phase Five of the bridge project.

Alex Skinner, community and communications manager for the contractors, VolkerFitzpatrick, said in a statement today (Monday): “We are approaching the end of the Phase Five works  and had a road safety audit on Thursday. Although we did not set a date for opening the road, we had hoped to do so on Friday. However, our auditors have requested some additional work to the replacement surface on Ash Church Road before opening.

“We are prioritising this work and hope to complete it this week so that Ash Church Road and the junction with Foreman Road can be reopened before the Easter Weekend. This will also see the removal of the temporary traffic lights and pedestrian path along Foreman Road.”
