Thames Water, the company that supplies our water and deals with our sewage, has let TV cameras into their operation for a behind-the-scenes, two-part observational documentary.
The UK’s largest water company which has faced concerted criticism over interruptions of local water supply in late 2023, the continuing discharge of sewage into our waterways and price hikes of water rates caused by a parlous financial position, is said to be lifting the lid on what goes on.
The documentary Thames Water: Inside the Crisis will air on BBC 2 on Monday and Tuesday, March 17 and 18 at 9pm.
The episodes, filmed over six months, follow some of the 8,000 Thames Water employees as they navigate the financial position of the business, work to improve company performance and reveal the day-to-day challenges when working on the front line and in the public eye.
A statement from Thames Water says: “With increased attention on river health the episodes aim to educate the public on the complexity of ensuring our rivers are clean while ensuring the company delivers reliable waste water services to its 16 million customers. It also shows the dangers of sewer abuse as part of Thames Water’s “bin it don’t block it” campaign.
“Thames Water reminds members of the public the only items which should be flushed down the loo are the three P’s: Pee, poo and toilet paper.”
