Be Inspired In February Half-Term At Watts Gallery

Join us this February Half Term (Tuesday, 18 to Sunday, February 23) at Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village and be inspired by the fascinating portraits that you can find across the site.

You can explore the faces of their permanent collection, as well as the final days of their exhibition, William Orpen: Method & Mastery (on until 5pm, Sunday, February 23). Under 18s go free!

G F Watts wanted to paint the most interesting faces – you can see some of them in our galleries. Who are they? What did they do? How do they feel to be on display?

Join storyteller, Olivia Armstrong, to hear the stories of some of the characters, wake up the paintings and animate Watts Gallery. This activity is free with admission and runs on Friday, February 21 and Sunday, February 23. Pre-booking is advised.

Featuring a selection of striking portraits alongside closely observed pencil studies and anatomical drawings, the William Orpen exhibition, ‘Method and Mastery’ is on until 5pm, Sunday, February 23.

Venture through the Watts Woodland to the Make Space and step into a pop-up portrait studio. Experiment with drawing using mirrors and perspex, and create your very own ‘Hall of Fame’. This drop-in activity is free with admission and runs throughout the week.

Explore the possibilities of using smart phones and iPads to draw creative portraits, in a digital masterclass led by artist Wilson Yau. This workshop runs from Thursday, 20 to Sunday, February 23 in separate sessions for ages eight to 12 (10.30am to 12.30pm) and 13 to 16 (2 to 4pm).

Pre-booking required. £10 per child or £9 for Friends of Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village.

Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village is located in Compton, just outside of Guildford, GU3 1DQ. Car parking is also free and baby change facilities are available.
