Guildford Choral invites audiences to embark on an exciting musical voyage on Saturday, November 1, 7.30pm at G Live, Guildford, with a programme celebrating the drama and beauty of the sea.
The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s evocative Hebrides Overture, inspired by the composer’s journey to the rugged Fingal’s Cave on the Isle of Staffa. Its surging waves and sweeping melodies set the scene for a programme steeped in maritime imagery.

The choir will then perform Charles Villiers Stanford’s Songs of the Fleet, a stirring cycle of songs brimming with nautical spirit and Edwardian grandeur.
The evening culminates in Ralph Vaughan Williams’s magnificent A Sea Symphony, a choral and orchestral masterpiece celebrating the drama and vastness of the ocean.
The visionary poetry of Walt Whitman is set against music of breathtaking scope: from the opening fanfare to the final chorus, this is one of the most ambitious works in the English choral tradition.
