Sunday morning (September 30, 2018) saw several hundred motorcyclists and their machine assemble in Guildford High Street before setting off on a charity ride.
They were taking part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. It is a world-wide initiative taking place in more than 650 locations, with an estimated 120,000 participants, raising funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and men’s mental health.
According to the website The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, the event was founded in Sydney, Australia by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles, whilst connecting niche motorcycle communities together.
The riders in Guildford set off half an hour our so before the procession came down the High Street as part of the dedication of the new war memorial in the Castle Grounds.
With engines roaring, the bikers left the High Street going down Market Street. It is said they were heading towards Newlands Corner and then on to Epsom.
