Guildford Borough Council has reached the finals of Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) awards in three categories.
The council are finalists in:
• Best service team of the year – Street Cleansing & Streetscene service
• Best service team of the year – Waste Management & Recycling service
• Best Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship Initiative.
Council leader Paul Spooner, said: “The APSE awards recognise that we are implementing innovative ideas, and developing new ways to deliver local services – all while under increased financial pressures.
“I am proud that we have been selected as finalists in these prestigious national awards”
James Whiteman, the borough council’s managing director, added: “We are delighted to have made it to the finalist stage in three different categories.
“Our service teams work tirelessly to keep our borough clean and tidy, and we have recently increased our recycling rate again to almost 60%. The teams deserve this recognition for their continued hard work.”
The awards attracted over 310 submissions with over 100 organisations taking part from across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The award presentation is due to take place on Thursday, September 7.

Congratulations. Living in the town centre one is aware of the huge number of users and how well it is kept clean.
The council staff are very helpful.

I don’t ever think I’ve heard GBC and excellent service in the same sentence before.
I presume they nominate themselves for these awards.
