Thieves who targeted a garage in Guildford overnight ended up getting away with nothing when the lawnmowers they had just stolen fell out of the get-away vehicle.
The attempted burglary happened yesterday (Monday, June 3) at 11.47pm in the Abbotswood area when the offenders forced their way into a detached garage building.
The intruders stole two petrol mowers which they loaded in to the back of a van and drove off at speed when they were disturbed. The garden equipment fell from the back of the van and was later recovered.
The suspects are described as two white men. The first man is described as being quite short, of an average build, aged in his late teens with blond hair sticking up on top. He was wearing a grey top which possibly had some red on it. The second man had dark hair.
The van is described as being small and white with no markings.
Detective Constable Andy Greaves investigating said: “The vehicle used in this offence is derived from a standard car model and is not a transit type van. I am hoping someone may have spotted it in the vicinity of the incident. It drove off from the scene without its lights on and turned right onto a road leading to London Road. Maybe you were driving along this road and spotted the car as it made its get away?
“The victim was alerted to the on-going crime and disturbed the suspects. I would urge members of the public who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact me as soon as possible.
“I would advise residents to keep a keen eye out for any unusual vehicles, visitors or suspicious activity and to report anything which causes them concern. Surrey Police will relentlessly pursue those who carry out such crime and bring them to justice.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference GD/13/4655. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
