On Sunday, July 29, the heavens opened – good news for gardeners, but less so for bowlers – and Stoke Park Lawn Bolwing Club cancelled the planned five triples match in Stoke Park.

On Tuesday, July 24 we lost, at home, to Ewhurst, in the Guildford, Woking & District League.

The following day we were successful, defeating our guests, Albury, by 72 to 60 shots. They had, the previous week, also been unable to raise a team in the Guildford, Woking & District League, and forfeited the match to us.

At least Horsell, who hosted us on Saturday July 28, fielded a full 15 players for a five triples match. Unfortunately for them, Burpham ran out winners, 87 to 71 shots.

We have secured promotion to Division 1 of the West Surrey League, with a match to spare. This was with a win at Woking Park on Saturday, August 4.

The home side fought to the end. Burpham ran out winners by 4-1 points, but by only one shot, 53-52. The last rink to finish gave all other players, and the many travelling supporters, a nail biting thrill, as Burpham held on – by one shot.

The winning score cards – promotion to Division 1 secured!

Our home match against Leatherhead might seem a formality, but club captain Alan Mogg is urging his team “to put on a display of dominance next Saturday.”

The good news continues with Burpham Ladies Triples team of Maureen Thomas, Carolyn Hart and Nina Challens reaching the final of the West Surrey League Ladies Triples competition.

This is already a huge result, and on this form, they may well be crowned champions soon.

The Knaphill Triples league saw Burpham manage a comfortable win by 42 shots to 28 over Mytchett on Thursday August 2.

Unfortunately, once again, a match was cancelled by our opponents – this time Puttenham – owing to lack of players.
