Guildford’s annual charity pancake race took place yesterday and faced the challenge of having to share the High Street with the Farmers Market.
This necessitated slightly shortening the course as well as relocating it further up the High Street. The finish line was outside the Three Pigeons, with Peter Gordon giving commentary from a first-floor window.
Organiser John Redpath said: “Despite the changes, everything came together incredibly well, with Anne Milton and Tony Scott cooking the pancakes outside Holy Trinity Church and the competitors doing a wonderful job racing and entertaining the crowd.
…and here it is. Cherry, on the right, representing Cherry Trees Children’s Charity, was the race winner.
“In total, we raised just over £580,” Mr Redpath added. “The sponsorship we receive from Chapters, Cavenders, Clyde & Co, Lytle Associates, Charles Stanley and Experience Guildford, as well as the support from PGmedia (aka Peter Gordon), Biddles of Guildford, and of course the 40 volunteers who were out there today, means that we can donate this entire amount to the Mayor of Guildford’s Local Support Fund.
“Special thanks also go to Diana Parker of Guildford Borough Council and Charles Robinson, who was on duty at the Guildhall, for helping make the event run smoothly today.”
