Residents and others from further afield, gathered at the Charlotteville War Memorial in Addison Road on Saturday, November 8, for its annual Act of Remembrance and laying of poppy wreaths.
The service was conducted by the Revd Rod Pierce of Holy Trinity Church with Last Post and Reveille played by bugler Brian Cohen.
Anthony Jacques recited the Ode of Remembrance and The Kohima Epitaph.
Relatives of those on the memorial and others laid wreaths.
Julie Howarth and Ian Nicholls reflected on the importance of ensuring that the stories of local men who served be preserved for all to remember.
They highlighted three men commemorated on the memorial who had died 110 years ago in 1915: Albert William Lansley (23), Albert Henry Sepple (29) and Frederick James Brown (26), one of three brothers who died in the war.
And in the Second World War, Peter Jesse Snelling of the RAF who died 80 years ago just one month before VE Day.
At the end of the service, the gathering was welcomed into the Addison Court lounge for refreshments. A poster display by Ian Nicholls presented the stories of those who served and some history of the community of St Luke’s.
