What a treat was in store for the audience who attended a fundraising concert by the Laudamus Chamber Choir at St Mary’s Church, Worplesdon on May 18.

The Laudamus Chamber Choir at St Mary’s Church, Worplesdon.

It featured medleys from Oliver!, Les Miserables and West Side Story, and some best loved songs from Gilbert and Sullivan and Verdi opera choruses.

Choir members sang with expression and enthusiasm, and there was a fine audience rendition of the lines ‘mud glorious mud’ in Flanders and Swan’s The Hippotamus Song, along with the amusing The Gas Man Cometh.

The choir’s musical director Helen Styles sang another composition, I’m Tone Deaf, brilliantly executed and accompanied by Caroline Page, causing great amusement.

Other highlights included Eric Painter’s Mr Cellophane and the Three little Maids from The Makado.

The evening was organised and hosted by the choir’s chairman Richard Broughton and John McLean on behalf of the parish events committee who provided wine and delicious canapés. The evening raised £757.
