In Guildford Crown Court today (Friday, September 19) Cllr Monika Juneja’s barrister indicated that she intended to plead not guilty to all seven criminal charges she faces.

The charges are: wilfully pretending to be a barrister; two counts of fraud; three counts under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act and one count of obtaining a pecuniary advantage contrary to the Theft Act.

Appearing in the preliminary hearing of the case before Judge Christopher Critchlow the prosecution team, led by barrister Kate Wilkinson, agreed with the defence barrister, Forz Khan, that the case should be moved away from Guildford to ensure a fair trial.

The next stage in the case will be a plea and case management hearing on Friday December 5th. It will be allocated to another court expected to be near to, but outside, the county of Surrey.

Throughout the proceedings Monika Juneja spoke only to confirm her name and address and was released on unconditional bail until the next hearing.

A councillor in Crown Court and still a councillor.

We as tax payers are paying for the councillor, the trial and probably the follow up. Gosh, makes you think.

Probably Councillor Mansbridge with his two drink driving offences also knows this. He is the leader of the council.

I despair. I always thought being a councillor meant you had morals and worked for the people you represented. Not in Guildford it seems.

The more one reads about these representatives of ours, day by day, the more one might get worried.

I understand that the Tory group code of conduct requires a councillor charged with an offence to be stood down.

We need to know why this has not happened.

In response to Jules Cranwell –

Surely we can make an exception, why can’t they all stand down?

But then “if you are not a victim why complain”?

    This is becoming a pantomime.

I would be grateful if The Guildford Dragon NEWS team could keep us informed of the proceedings on December 5th and going forward, even though it will be taking place outside of the Guildford area.

And, if the Tory code of conduct requires Cllr Juneja to stand down, why this has not yet happened?

We will be continuing to report on this case even though it is to be moved away from Guildford. Ed.

Mr Cranwell is incorrect if he is referring to the Guildford BC Conservative Group Rules. That is why it has not happened Mr Cranwell.

Where did his ‘understanding’ come from? I assume he is not deliberately providing incorrect and/or misleading information for his own purposes?
