The most recent Covid dashboard from Surrey County Council shows Guildford borough with the highest infection rate in the county, a 30 per cent increase from the previous week. Overall in Surrey, there is a 19% increase. This, it is believed, is due to the effects of restrictions being lifted in the final stage of the roadmap.
A spokesperson said: “We are seeing particularly high Covid rates in men aged 18-29. Getting vaccinated and testing twice a week are the best ways to keep yourself and others safe.”
And hospital admissions in Surrey saw another small rise but this was not reflected at the Royal Surrey where there were just eight Covid-related admissions, the same number as for the previous two weeks. Thankfully, once again, no Covid-related deaths were recorded in Guildford.
All areas of the borough saw an increase in infection rates. The highest rates recorded for the week ending August 12 were in: Onslow Village, Guildford South, and Park Barn.
