The Christmas Fathers are a band of three dads to children at St Nicolas’ Infant School in Guildford, who formed to raise funds for the school’s parent staff association (PSA).

The Christmas Fathers with their song Socially Distanced Santa raising funds for St Nicolas Infant school, Guildford.

Usually the PSA’s Christmas fair is a cornerstone of their annual fundraising for the school. Last year the Christmas Fathers performed live at the fair and proved a huge hit with the local community.

The school says that although it’s not been possible to hold the fair this year, the Christmas Fathers still wanted to contribute in the best way they know how, and have released a charity single to raise money for the school.

Simon of the Christmas Fathers said: “We wanted to write a song that puts a positive spin on lockdown, and to reassure the children that Santa would still be coming this year (albeit in his PPE!).”

“It’s a song about our community, for our community. We wanted to do something for the school to raise funds and thank the staff, who have worked incredibly hard this year and put themselves on the frontline at a really challenging time.”

This catchy festive tune can be enjoyed via YouTube, see below.

Within just 48 hours of release, Socially Distanced Santa raised more than £500 for the school and has received wide acclaim in the local community and beyond.

The band is made up Guildford residents Simon, Ollie, and Ryan who all have children at the school.

Ollie and Simon both write music professionally and describe lead singer Ryan as the icing on the (Christmas) cake.

Simon added: “As the song was recorded during lockdown, I recorded Ryan’s vocals by sitting in a car outside his house with my laptop and ran a microphone in through the window!

“My daughter Layla, a St Nics’ pupil, is a guest vocalist on the song. And of course we were honoured that Santa himself was willing to take part.”

The song is free to listen to and can be enjoyed and shared as many times as you like, but the Christmas Fathers ask that you please consider making a donation via Virgin Money: virginmoneygiving.com/fund/SDSanta

All money raised will help the school fund items such as IT equipment, school trips, library books and enhancing the school facilities for the pupils aged between four and seven years old.

It’s 26 years since we had a child at St Nics. How time flies. The headteacher was Elizabeth Taylor.

The school gave an absolutely incredible start for our children and although they invariably move to different schools, we’ve never lost contact with many parents at St Nics.

We’ll never forget our time there and it’s great to know that the PTA is still so strong.

Wow! well done to the dads.

St Nic’s is such a brilliant infant school.

My children went there many years ago. It is such a caring school.
