A blue Land Rover Discovery was spotted by Surrey police officers being driven dangerously throughout Guildford in the early hours of Sunday morning, (November 7).

At around 3.45am officers on patrol spotted the vehicle going southbound at speed along Woodbridge Road, towards the town centre. The car was seen erratically overtaking vehicles and also drove into the path of oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road.

It continued through the town centre and then out towards Godalming, along the A3100 Portsmouth Road, before the driver lost control of the vehicle at the roundabout junction with the B3000, New Pond Road, near Guildford Crematorium.

The car mounted the verge and collided with a lamp post. Fortunately, the three occupants of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries.

Officers attended the scene and a 19-year-old man was been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to stop, driving whilst over the prescribed limit of alcohol and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He has been released under investigation.

PC Theresa Clancy said: “The vehicle was seen driving recklessly through Guildford putting other road users at risk. Surrey Police deals with dangerous drivers in a robust manner to help keep our county’s roads safe.”

A police spokesperson added: “If you witnessed the incident, or have any dashcam footage which may help, please contact us quoting PR/45210117808 via:

“If you do not wish to leave your name, please call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
