Eagle radio has launched a “Bring a pound to work” day to raise a total of £40,000 in 2019 for local charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care to help celebrate the charity’s 40th anniversary. Listeners are being asked to bring £1 to work on Friday, September 20 as a donation.

The fundraising initiative follows Eagle’s April radiothon which raised more than £20,000 for Phyllis Tuckwell. The “pound to work” day is aimed at reaching Eagle’s overall target of £40,00 for the year.

Managing director Paul Marcus said: “Eagle radio has always enjoyed a strong relationship with the team at Phyllis Tuckwell and we greatly value their contribution to our local community. This initiative provides a collective opportunity for local schools, businesses and individuals to support a much-loved local charity and to help mark their 40th birthday.”

Peter Foxton, director of income generation at Phyllis Tuckwell, said: “We thank Eagle for their continued support, especially in our anniversary year, and for launching this brilliant way to raise money to help fund our care. The radiothon raised enough money to cover the costs of one of our nurses for six months, and the ‘pound to work’ initiative will help pay for more of our vital nursing care.”

Eagle is encouraging donors to organise their own workplace initiative. Every penny raised will go towards helping fund the supportive and end-of-life care Phyllis Tuckwell offers to patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North-east Hampshire.

Every day, the charity supports more than 250 patients, relatives and carers, through medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support. The NHS/Government covers only 20% of their costs, and Phyllis Tuckwell has tor raise enough to cover their share, totalling more than £20,000 a day.

Visit the Eagle radio website for more details on how to donate.
