Effingham Man Killed Driving Horse Drawn Cart on Major Road

At around 8.45am on Saturday, July 28 (2018), Michael Christopher Connors aged 32 of Chester Road Effingham, died following a  collision with an overtaking car on the A2016 Eastern Way, a dual carriageway, in Thamesmead.

A member of the Gypsy community, Mr Connors was reported to have been driving a horse-drawn racing buggy when it is alleged that he was struck by another vehicle that was overtaking him.

He leaves his wife Elizabeth and two young children.

Michael Connors is reported in the national media to be the nephew of Paddy Doherty who appeared in Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. He was the owner of Grand Designs Paving, a well known, successful local business.

It is understood that the horse “Big T” had to be put down and that the driver of the car involved was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
