“Excellent progress” is being made on the new Guildford crematorium, the borough council has reported.

The old buildings have been demolished and work has begun on the new chapel, offices and other facilities. The £10 million investment includes state-of-the-art facilities, and is scheduled for completion late this year.

Matt Furniss, deputy leader of the council and lead councillor for infrastructure and governance, said: “I am pleased the project is on track. This will meet the changing needs of our community. Relatives will soon benefit from our new remembrance courtyard, offering a peaceful place to reflect and remember loved ones at what is always a difficult time.”

”While work continues, we continue to offer the same high-quality standard of care in our interim chapel on site. The interim facilities have been designed to a very high standard and include carpeted floors, acoustic panelling and flexible seating.

“The new remembrance courtyard is due to open this month offering a space for quiet reflection and rooms to place memorial flowers or view the books of remembrance. It also contains new accessible toilet provision.”
