Headway Surrey, a local charity that supports people with brain injuries, will soon be open for an additional workshop day every week.

From June 13, the extra day will complement its range of services at its centre in North Road, Stoughton that will be open for three full days a week.

The staff team at Headway Surrey, based in North Road, Stoughton, Guildford.

The extra day will be on Wednesday from 10am to 3pm. Spaces are limited to just 12 to 14 people over the age of 18, to enable staff staff to provide the correct brain stimulation to help cognitive rehabilitation, confidence and ability.

There are still some spaces, and for details call 01483 455225, or email to enquiries@headwaysurrey.org

Headway Surrey helps people who have sustained a traumatic brain injury from an incident such as a road traffic accident, sporting accident, work incident, a fall, trip or slip. And also people who have acquired a brain injury from having a stroke, heart attack, brain tumour, encephalitis, deprivation of oxygen and other medical reasons

Brain injuries are always different and complex, some people suffer from a range of issues, and others might only have difficulty with one thing, perhaps memory or planning.

Headway Surrey offers cognitive rehabilitation therapy in a safe and caring environment to re-build lost executive skills, provide memory strategies, planning, decision making and prioritising. Realistic goals and targets are set for each individual in the specialist centre.

It recently hosted a workshop tilted Everyday Problem Solving, focusing on sufferers having an unexpected visitor, or trying to find something. The clients considered various ideas and their comments were: “I enjoyed it, but it was hard work”, “Very interesting and testing”.  Another said: “It was very good to think about various scenarios” and a third said “Interesting listening to other people’s points of view and how to assess situations”.

People with brain injury often forget or do not understand how to deal with daily events, so discussion and sharing different strategies is really important.

Headway Surrey is delighted to be one of the Mayor of Guildford’s chosen charities for 2018-2019.

As well as supporting people with brain injury, it also provides support, meetings and advice for anyone caring for a person with a brain injury.

Headway Surrey received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services in 2017 and also the Mayor’s Gold Award for Access.
