Today, a blustery Saturday, (March 16, 2019) marked the culmination of a village fundraising project with the opening of the new toddler playground on the King George V (KGV) playing fields, Browns Lane, Effingham.

The playground was opened by Sir Barnes Wallis’ daughter Elizabeth Gaunt (pictured above) with speeches given by an Effingham Village Recreational Trustee, Sue Morris and Vivien White chairman of Effingham Residents Association.  Flowers were presented to those who had pushed this project through, raising over £30,000 in the process.

Kids enjoy the playground after major revamp.

Once Elizabeth had cut the tape children rushed in to try out all the exciting new equipment whilst adults headed for the refreshments that had been laid on.  The children’s faces clearly showed what pleasure the revamped amenity will provide.

Many local businesses, the parish council and village people had donated their time and money to the project. One Effingham resident commented: “Special thanks have to go to Vivien White, Sarah Montgomery and Louise Wishart for their vision and hard work.”

Grateful thanks to Vivien, Sarah and Louise for their determination and success in bringing this marvellous playground to fruition and to all the generous donors.
