Driver Who Died In Tongham Crash Was Promising Young Footballer

The teenage driver of a Volkswagen Polo died when the car collided head-on with a taxi in Oxenden Road, Tongham, just after 1am on Sunday morning.

Later that day, Frimley Green Football Club confirmed that the teenager was one of its promising under-18 players. Several other club players were also injured, some seriously.

Surrey Police report that, in total, six casualties from the Volkswagen Polo were taken to hospital.

The taxi driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital. He was not carrying any passengers at the time.

Detective Sergeant Kani Barawi, from Surrey police, said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances of the crash and would appeal to anyone with any information to contact us straight away.”
