Three men and two women have been arrested in Guildford on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was taken to hospital today with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Another female has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Officers were called to Guildford Park Avenue at 5.10am (July 18) following reports of an altercation between several people, potentially involving a knife. Detectives want to hear from anyone who may have any information about what happened.
Detective Inspector Pete Howgate said: “This has been and continues to be a fast-moving investigation today resulting in a number of arrests.
“There was initially a substantial cordon in place which was necessary to help us look for and secure evidence. These have now been scaled back and I’m grateful for the public’s understanding, given the impact it had during rush-hour this morning.
“We will continue to have a police presence in the area throughout today and tomorrow to both investigate but also to speak to residents and offer reassurance.
“If anyone has any information about what happened please get in touch with us, or if you don’t want to speak to police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
This evening police were still at the scene searching drains and the area for evidence. Officers from Sussex were observed to have joined in the investigation.
A police spokesperson added: “When calling Surrey Police on 101 [about this incident] please quote the reference number PR/45190075265.”
