Student reporter Amina Sahbegovic started an internship at The Guildford Dragon NEWS in July (2018). She is an undergraduate at Leiden University, Netherlands, where she studies International Studies, specialising in the Middle East and North Africa.
Amina was born in France, to a Bosnian family. She has always wanted to pursue a career in journalism which is why, at the age of 13, she took work experience in a local newspaper for kids in Alsace.
She travelled in Australia, New Zealand and Asia before starting her degree and has written several news pieces for her university magazine in The Hague.
Now in the third year of her studies, Amina decided to conduct a six-month internship in local media to expand her experience. She hopes to pursue a masters in journalism or public policy in London.
Aged 23, she has a passion for politics, literature, philosophy and languages and loves to write. Her dream career would be to become a reporter or correspondent between Europe and the Middle East.
But she recognises the importance of local journalism which is why she has chosen to do her internship at The Dragon, attracted by its coverage of local politics.
Treated properly as a student reporter, no tea-making or minor chores, Amina is with The Dragon until December and will work closely with experienced members of the team.
During her internship she is conducting research on local news and will write a paper on it, coached by a university journalism teacher.
In her spare time, Amina loves doing photography, enjoys climbing, outdoor activities and meeting people.

Amina is an example of the way the world is today. A far cry from the Brexiteer closed vision of Britain.
