The next work party to tidy up Chitty’s Common at Rydes Hill, Guildford takes place on Sunday, February 18, from 10am to 3pm.
The first one took place on January 14, and was a great success.
Pauline Searle, from the Friends of Chitty’s Common Work Party group, said: “We had 18 volunteers come along, including children, and representative from Surrey Wildlife Trust.
“We achieved a lot, including litter picking, clearing a large part of the meadow area and having a big bonfire.
“Everyone had an enjoyable time and I would like to thank them for all coming whether they were there for an hour to the whole time, especially the children. They were a great help, seeing them put so much effort inspired us all.
“It is so important to protect and look after our commons and green spaces for the next generation and to encourage them to be involved.
“We plan to have work parties all year round.”
Following on from Sunday, February 18, further dates will be: Saturday, March 10, and Sunday, April 8.

A really great day, fun and friendly atmosphere.
It would be great to get Chitty’s Common back as a haven for wildlife and to improve access so more people can enjoy it in Soughton. Do get involved if you have time!
