The 14th International Concert Season at G Live has begun, with a soaring performance from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Kevin John Edusei.

The RPO, affectionately known as “the Royal Phil”, was joined by pianist Boris Giltburg, who played Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor with extraordinary verve and skill.

Also featured in the night’s enjoyable programme were Dvorak’s In Nature’s Realm and Symphony No.2 in D major by Sibelius.

The Royal Philharmonic returns to Guildford twice next year, with Elgar: Enigma Variations on April 7 and a programme of masterworks by Dvorak, Mendelssohn and Beethoven for the last concert of the season, on May 29.

Kevin John Edusei Marco Borggreve conducted a soaring performance from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Other renowned international orchestras to come include the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5 on November 11; the Czech Janacek Philharmonic bringing Bruch’s Violin Concerto to life on February 13; and the return of National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine on March 18th with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 5 The Emperor.

G Live also welcomes, for the third year, The Cheryl King Trust as the Guildford International Season’s charity partner. The Trust works to remove the financial barriers that prevent young people in Surrey learning a musical instrument, by providing bursaries for instruments and singing lessons, and grants to local music ensembles. One of its current projects is with Sandfield Primary School in central Guildford.

Venue Director Christina Horsepool said: “Featuring a captivating mix of orchestral performances and acclaimed soloists from across the globe, we look forward to continuing to delight our audiences with this upcoming Guildford International Concert Season.

“We are thrilled and proud to extend our partnership with The Cheryl King Trust, supporting young people across Surrey to discover and learn music, regardless of their financial circumstances.”
