Get Inspired Through Sport And Healthy Living at Guildford Games 2016

A free event with lots of sports to try, children’s activities, health and wellbeing demonstrations and information is taking place on Saturday, September 24.

Guildford Games 2016 is being held on Bannisters field, Egerton Road (opposite Guildford Tesco) GU2 7UN, from noon to 4pm, and there promises to be plenty to see and do for all ages.

Some of the sporting clubs and healthy living organisations who will be attending include Surrey Spartans Hockey, Guildford Thunder Korfball, Surrey Rollerboys, Guildford City Boxing Club, Walking for Health, Guildford Junior Parkrun, and Surrey County Council’s Community Youth Work team.

guildford-games-picAnd as well as trying out some of the above healthy activities and getting information on them, other sports represented will include lacrosse, walking basketball, cricket, mini tennis and golf.

There will also be displays of tai chi, zumba, karate and punk rock yoga.

Among those giving advice on a wide range of health and wellbeing topics will be the British Heart Foundation, Spirit health club at Guildford’s Holiday Inn, Catalyst, Crossroads Care Surrey, Oakleaf Enterprise, Positivity in Progress, and many more.

There will be plenty of activities for children including a play bus from the Guildford Children’s Centre and Guildford Borough Council’s Playrangers.

Voluntary Action South West Surrey and its Joining In! project will be on hand giving details of how you can get involved in your local communities and news about the new Guildford Time Bank project.

The Park Barn & Westborough Community Association will be present as will Surrey Disabled People’s Partnership, Guildford YMCA, the Diocese of Guildford’s Community Connectors and the Spinney Children’s Centre.

There will be live music throughout the afternoon by local artists including Squeezebox, Paperwaits, Hannah Dorman and the Rhythm of Life community choir. Refreshments will also be available.

The event is being hosted by Guildford Borough Council’s community wardens under the council’s Project Aspire scheme. The inspiration comes from this year’s Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games at which Great Britain’s athletes once again excelled and thrilled the nation.
