A 20-year-old man has been jailed for five years for an unprovoked attack “like a pack of wild animals” on a father and son in Guildford last year that left the 72-year-old father with life-changing injuries and needing regular care.
Keiran McQuade, of Vernon Way, Guildford, admitted grievous bodily harm at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday (February 7). Last May, he was in a group causing a disturbance at 4.30am outside the victims’ home in Worplesdon Road.
The father and his 47-year-old son were woken and feared the gang was about to break in. The pair went out to ask them to leave but they were attacked and beaten repeatedly.
Police made several arrests and were able to charge McQuade. He was sentenced to three years and two years for each offence, to be served consecutively. Five others arrested during the investigation have been told they face no further action at this time.
Detective Constable Simon Tigg said: “This was a horrific and unprovoked attack and McQuade is rightly behind bars where he belongs. The victims are still suffering from the consequences of the frenzied attack.
“This has been a lengthy and complex investigation but it shows our determination to hunt down violent offenders, arrest them and put them before the courts.”
The 47-year-old victim had told police the men were “a pack of wild animals”. He added: “When I think about what happened, which is quite often, it is not obvious to me why they did it or why they were acting like they were.
“There was one person in particular who seemed to direct what was going on and this was strange to me. These thoughts just come and go.”
