by Nick Bale, Guildford Town Guides
Excitement is mounting among the town guides as we will be launching their Leading Lights walk on Tuesday, August 14. This is a new walk about the creative minds associated with the town, including many authors, actors and artists of international renown.
My question this week therefore relates to a celebrated author. He was born in Guildford and he clearly had not forgotten the Guildford area as one of the characters he created in later life was called Lord Worplesden.
What is the author’s name?
If you know the answer, please leave a reply in the box below. The answer will be given in a week’s time with the next Guildford question.
You can find out more about the Leading Lights of Guildford on Tuesday, August 14, on the walk starting at Tunsgate Arch at 2.30pm.
This is a free walk but pre-booking is required through the Tourist Information Centre. There will be a second chance to join the new walk on Tuesday, September 11, at 2.30pm if you cannot book a place for August 14.
The answer to last week’s question question is that Charles Dodgson referred to himself as a “watchful uncle” as he gave each of his nieces and nephews a gold pocket watch when they reached an appropriate age. A very generous “watchful” uncle indeed.
