Guildford Towpath Assaults – Man Pleads Guilty

A 19-year-old man has pleaded guilty to attacking two women in Walnut Tree Close in Guildford on Thursday, February 2.

The incident happened at around 8.20pm along the towpath between the footbridge and the Odeon cinema. A 20-year-old woman was assaulted as she was walking along the towpath and a second woman in her 30s was assaulted when trying to intervene. Both sustained minor facial injuries.

Simon Ciobanu, of Rye Close in Guildford, was charged and subsequently pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one count of resisting arrest on Saturday, February 4 2017 at Staines Magistrates Court.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear for sentencing at Guildford Crown Court on 23 February 2017.
