Organisers and sponsors of this year’s Guildford Walkfest met to mark the end of another successful annual event.

Derek Merchant is presented with an award for most walks attended at Walkfest 2018, by the chairman of Guildford Walkfest, Chris Howard.

The Mayor of Guildford, Mike Parsons, welcomed them to his to Millmead parlour. He praised the efforts of the volunteers and walk leaders and also paid tribute to the corporate sponsors: Experience Guildford, Hill Clements estate sgents, Bevan Wilson physiotherapy, and the Mandolay Hotel.

Walkfest, now in its 12th year, attracted walkers from all over the county and beyond, all keen to take advantage of more than 70 free walks designed for people of all ages and abilities so as to “get out and about in our glorious towns, villages and countryside”.

The chairman of Guildford Walkfest, Chris Howard, was also quick with her thanks not only for the continued support of Guildford Borough Council but also for four stalwarts of Walkfest: president and founder Keith Chesterton,  Helen Barnsley from Guildford Borough Council, Pete Lambert of Experience Guildford, and Lionel Smith, they being “the glue that holds Walkfest together, every year”.
