Police officers are hoping that someone will be able to clear up an unusual case involving a small urn filled with ashes.

Back in the summer someone contacted Surrey Police to say that a man in a suit had left the urn on top of a rubbish bin outside Sainsbury’s in Guildford High Street and then walked away.

Does anyone recognise this urn?

Does anyone recognise this urn?

The urn was brought back to Guildford police station where officers have been trying to find out who it might belong to ever since.

The urn is burgundy in colour with gold trim and has a gold rose motif on the front.

Graham Lane from Surrey Police said: “There is no identification on the urn and no one has come forward to report it missing or stolen. It really is a mystery as to why someone would leave an urn full of ashes on a rubbish bin and we are hoping that someone will recognise it and contact us with information so we can return it to the owner.”

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference P14225594.
