The 47th Guildford Lions’ annual charity raft race will take place on Saturday, July 7, starting at Millmead Lock and finishing at the Waterside Centre in Stoughton. The theme for this year’s race is Heroes from History.
The Mayor of Guildford, Mike Parsons, will start the race and judge the best presented raft and crew. He will award a new trophy this year for sportmanship and trophies will also be presented for the time taken in the different raft classes. The race is open to both home-made rafts and paddleboarders.
Spectators can follow the race along the river bank.
The timetable for the event is as follows:
2pm: Judging of the best presented rafts at Millmead Lock.
3pm: The race starts.
3.30pm: Barbecue at the Waterside Centre, with entertainment provided by the Guildford Rock Choir while the judges deliberate.
4.30pm: Prize-giving.
Guildford Lions raised more than £6,000 for local charities from last year’s event.
Entry is open to all – companies, charities, youth organisations and individuals.
