Free and Discounted Bus Travel in Surrey
Getting around Surrey by bus could be easier, and cheaper than you think, thanks to a range of travel schemes designed to support residents of all ages.
If you’re of State Pension age, you may be eligible for a concessionary bus pass, giving you free travel on buses anywhere in England. It can be used between 9.30am and 11pm on weekdays, and at any time on weekends and public holidays, perfect for everything from shopping trips to visiting friends and family. You can apply up to 28 days before you become eligible, and most passes are processed within 15 working days.
Disabled residents may also qualify for a free bus pass with the same travel benefits. If you’re aged between 5 and State Pension age, live in Surrey, and meet certain criteria, such as specific disabilities, sensory impairments or medical conditions, you could be entitled to extra support. If you’re already of State Pension age, you should apply for the older person’s pass instead.
For younger residents, the Surrey LINK card offers a simple way to save. Available to anyone aged 20 and under, it provides 50% off adult bus fares for journeys starting or ending in Surrey, often bringing the cost down to a child fare. The card is free, with a small £10 fee only if it needs replacing.
There are two types of LINK card: one for under 16’s and another for 16 to 20-year-olds, with both available to apply for up to 28 days in advance.
Whether you’re heading to work, college or out to explore, these schemes are here to help you travel for less.
