Surrey Spring Clean: Refreshing Our Roads and Communities
As spring arrives, Surrey’s roads and communities are looking fresher and brighter, thanks to a major clean-up effort. From November 2024 to February 2025, the Surrey Spring Clean has brought a wave of improvements, ensuring our highways and public spaces are safer, more accessible, and more visually appealing.
Over 600 roads have been refreshed, with teams working hard to clear, clean, and enhance Surrey’s network. This included cutting back over 380km of roadside hedges, removing over 50km of weeds and vegetation, and cleaning over 360 additional drain channels to help prevent flooding.
To improve visibility and safety, over 600 signs have been cleared of vegetation, and more than 2,300 road signs have been cleaned. Pedestrians and cyclists are also benefiting from over 50km of footway edging, creating clearer and wider paths for all.
It’s not just about functionality – appearance matters too. Over 50 railings and bollards have been freshly painted, and another 250 have been cleaned, restoring them to top condition. Our roadsides now look neater with over 40 traffic islands cleaned, helping to create a tidier, more welcoming environment.
This massive effort reflects a commitment to keeping Surrey’s infrastructure in excellent shape, enhancing both safety and pride in our local communities. As the seasons change, let’s all play our part in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our shared spaces.
