Surrey and Blackwater Valley are set for a quieter, cleaner future as a brand-new fleet of electric buses prepares to hit the roads.

Community leaders, transport partners and local organisations recently gathered in Guildford to welcome 22 new zero-emission double decker buses that will soon serve routes across Surrey and Blackwater Valley.

The new fleet is part of an £11.6 million investment and partnership between Stagecoach South and Surrey County Council through the Surrey Greener Futures programme, helping support cleaner air, lower carbon emissions and more sustainable travel for residents.

The electric buses will operate on key routes connecting communities including Guildford, Aldershot, Farnborough, Frimley, Camberley, and Old Dean offering quieter journeys and improved passenger comfort.

Designed with accessibility in mind, every bus includes two dedicated wheelchair spaces, modern interiors, real-time passenger information displays and USB and USB-C charging points at every seat. Each vehicle can carry up to 73 passengers, helping make public transport more convenient and inclusive for local communities.

The launch event at Guildford Pavilion brought together representatives from local councils, community groups and transport partners involved in delivering the project, including the Rushmoor Accessibility Action Group (RAAG), electric infrastructure specialists VEV and vehicle manufacturer Yutong.

The new buses are expected to begin entering service soon as part of the region’s ongoing transition towards a zero-emission future.
