Recovering £2 Million to Reinvest in Surrey’s Roads

This year, our Damage to County Property team has reached an impressive milestone that will make a real difference to Surrey’s road network. Since the team was formed in October 2022, they’ve successfully recovered the costs of 513 incidents where SCC property was damaged, bringing back a total of £2 million into our budgets.

From April 2025 alone, they’ve secured £850,000 in recoveries – money that goes straight back into maintaining and improving the roads we all rely on every day.

When things like barriers, signs, or road surfaces are damaged by third parties, the costs can add up quickly. Instead of residents footing the bill, the specialist team works hard to ensure those responsible pay for the repairs. Their work protects public funds and allows us to reinvest in essential maintenance across the county.

Behind the scenes, this success comes from a dedicated group of colleagues who track down evidence, work closely with other teams, and follow up every valid claim. Their determination means we can recover as much as possible – and the results really do speak for themselves.

This isn’t just about the numbers; it’s about making sure Surrey’s infrastructure is protected and that every pound is used wisely. Thanks to their efforts, more money is available to keep our roads safe and the network moving.

A huge well done to everyone involved – your work is having a real impact for residents across Surrey.
