Small Jobs, Big Impact

Over the summer months, our dedicated Roadside Rangers have been working right across Surrey, helping to keep our highways safe, accessible, and well-maintained. The team focuses on the smaller but essential jobs that, when added together, make a big difference to residents, pedestrians, and road users.

From tackling overgrown vegetation to cleaning street furniture, the Rangers have been busy delivering improvements that help keep communities moving safely.

Here’s just some of what they’ve achieved over August:

  • Cleared and cutback 42km of weeds and vegetation, improving visibility and keeping pavements accessible.
  • Cleaned 35 additional drain channels, helping surface water drain away more effectively and reducing flood risk.
  • Repaired and cleaned over 650 road signs, ensuring drivers always have a clear view of important information.
  • Brightened up local areas by cleaning and painting more than 45 railings and bollards.
  • Completed 23km of footway edging, keeping paths safe, tidy, and easy to use.

These are the kind of tasks that can easily go unnoticed, but they make a real difference to the safety, appearance, and usability of our highways. The Roadside Rangers will continue this important work year-round, helping Surrey remain a safe and pleasant place to travel.

Does SCC charge the landowners whose overhanging vegetation SCC’s team has cut back to keep the pavements accessible?

If so, has SCC recovered all the monies it has charged?
