Community Rail Officer – Try a Great Western Train

Full time 35 hours per week until March 2023: £23,241.40 per annum

The post is for the Southeast Communities Rail Partnership (SCRP) that works to connect local communities with their railway, across Kent, Sussex, and Surrey, which helps to shape the future of the Railway and brings local stations into the heart of their communities.

A motivated and competent person is required for this interesting, varied, and challenging start up role. If successful, we hope to develop the role, subject to funding in future years.

The programme aims to deliver training sessions, station visits and train trips to encourage groups to travel by train. You will have the opportunity to develop the role to encourage less confident groups and individuals to travel by train. The project is due to be completed by March 31, 2023.

A key aspect of the role in delivering the programme is building new relationships with community & educational groups (including local authorities) which engage potential rail users. You will travel on GWR lines, focussing initially on lines north and east from Reading.

You will keep accurate records of outcomes, survey users and devise case studies to demonstrate how the programme is delivered.

You will be a vital part of SCRP’s team, advising colleagues on projects, contributing to SCRP’s marketing and social media presence, and promoting the Try the GWR Train programme to stakeholders. You will be part of our developing Education Team.

We require a self-motivated person with a proven track record in teaching and inspiring people, excellent project management and communication skills, experience of working with diverse partners and an interest in sustainable transport.

The post holder will be home-based, balancing home-working with delivering activities and workshops in person and/or teaching using Teams / Zoom in schools.

In return, we offer a flexible working environment, a duty train travel pass, a small but dedicated and supportive team atmosphere and generous holiday allowance. Some evening and weekend work may be required. We are happy to discuss flexible working hours.

Closing date for applications is noon on February 8, 2022, and interviews will be held on February 16, 2022, in Reading.

We only accept applications on our company application form. CVs are not accepted. Application packs can be downloaded from our website https://bit.ly/JobSCRP
